How is soda prepared at fast food restuarants?

I know this sounds like a silly question, but I’ve gotten pop to drink at a fast food restaurant, and it might be out of one thing or another, and I’d end up with soda water, or something sour tasting like that, it would be all clear. If I get Mt. Dew for instance, it tastes different than if I got some from a bottle or can and added it to ice. Just thought someone who worked in a fast food restaurant might be able to shed some light on this. Thanks.

it all depends on the container that you get your food served in. if it’s a glass it’ll taste different than from a bottle. try it at home. drink from a glass with ice and drink form a can. big difference.

Your just in luck. I happen to be a manager at a fast food restaurant. Ok, the pop, that’s we call soda in Canada, come in 2 parts. One part is a CO2 tank. The other part is just the syrup. The syrup is connected to the tanks via a mixing system with water and comes out as pop, or soda if you like. Usualy, if you get soda water taste, that’s just what that is, it means the syrup ran out and someone hasn’t changed it yet. And don’t worry, it’s not a silly question.

The carbonated soda is already in the machine, but the syrup to concoct the different soda is prepared separately then put in each respective dispensers is what I have understood.

Totally depends on how the soda pop is delivered when you order it;

There are two types of fountain machines (soda that is dispensed into a drink container from a single spout - like McD’d uses);

One is the POST-MIX which is when you have two different feed lines into the machine - one is the CO2 (bubbles) and the other is the drink syrup (pepsi, mt dew, dr pepper, etc.) the lines meet at the spout and mix in your cup as the fluid is dispensed into your cup.

The other type of fountain is a PRE-MIX - canisters of already mixed CO2 and syrup are hooked by a single feed tube to the machine and is poured into your cup. In essence this type is an oversized metal canister or bottle of your chosen flavor of soda, mixed long before it arrives at the restaurant.

Hope this helps! Cheers
