Fast Food
Dani ((Bom Chicka)) asked:

Should i stay away from fast food or is is okay?
[i'm a vegetarian]
There are things i can order like fries and stuff, but is it safe. Do they deep fry the fries in the same oil as they may fry chicken? and things of that sort.

All fast food joints fry their fries in the same oil as the meat products like chicken and fish. Most fast food places offer salads and fruit, but they are often high in sugar and artificial ingredients. Best to avoid fast food and to eat five fruits and veggies a day. Fast food tends to contain high fat and trans fat.

That’s the sort of thing you have to research to find out. McD’s fries are sprayed with beef fat. Burger King’s fries are vegetarian.

You can’t tell for sure unless you ask. Allegedly McDonald’s uses only vegetable oil. Some of the smaller places may use the oil for everything including chicken or whatever.

If it’s a veggie burger, you can ask them to microwave it separately - that’s what Harvey’s in Canada suggests. I wouldn’t get french fries or onion rings if the restaurant sells deep-fried meat products, because they’ll all be swimming in the same vat of oil. Most places cook chicken strips or fried chicken in there. Get soup, baked potato, rice or salad instead.

McDonalds is not vegetarian (in North America at least). Don’t eat their food at all. Their website basically tells veggies to avoid their restaurants.

Probably the best bet is to get a sub, pita or pizza. I know at my local pizza joint, they have a separate pizza stone and cutter for veggie pizza, as a lot of their customers eat kosher.

Oh, and don’t ask the employees - they’re not hired for their ingredient knowledge. Send a letter to the head office asking clearly about animal byproducts. Don’t call, because if they lie on the phone, you don’t have any way you could potentially sue them (not that you would, but that’s how corporate legal advisers think).

Fast foods are killing machines. Fast foods have kill million people by participate by clogging the arteries of their customers. Fast foods should not be allow by the governments but they are making money out of the sicks by getting plenty txes from hospitals and laboratories, 100 billions every years. So who cares about the average joe getting his burger killing himself? And not talking about the cancer.

If you’re a vegetarian for the ethics, I think it would be a bit contradictory to go to a fast food resturant - these companies not only abuse animals, but they have no respect for humans either - union busting, underpaying and exploiting workers and trying to brainwash children with brand loyalty from birth.
Do you really want to be supporting these companies, regardless of whether or not they have vegetarian food?

Avoid it when you can, but sometimes you’ll run into a situation when you’re traveling and you need to grab something quick. In those times, I’d look for a Subway or something. If you must, Burger King does have a couple of veggie options, but they’re still a far cry from being anything ‘healthy’.

Like I said, sometimes ’speedy’ trumps ‘healthy’. Just try not to do it more than once or twice a month!
